Amazing collection of paintings! - My Favourite Art

Rejuvenation

Artist: Emmesse

A juxtaposition of old and new. Taken from a point in Whalley Range, an area with a traditional and long-inhabited community. Elderly figures emerge in the headlights on the road; dancing, rejoicing, remembering? Or perhaps lamenting. The stark newness of the Beetham Tower literally towers over their community. The 2 symbols at the top invite an argument. Which side of the fence does the viewer stand? Can old and new live alongside each other happily? Is it possible to keep tradition alive?

Ego Trips In The Night

Artist: Emmesse

A painting about drunkeness, lust, and the quest for escapism. A woman walks up the left side of the canvas. A shadowed figure on the left, having had too much to drink, sways and leers at the woman. The erratic 'wall' in between to two individuals acts as a signpost for the feeling of never quite 'getting there' in terms of being comfortable and enjoying yourself. There's always something on your mind, something niggling in the background preventing a carefree evening. There's always a better party in the next pub, the next drink will loosen you up a bit, 'Just forget about it mate; have another pint'. The figure on the right feels grim, lost, ill-fitting. He stagnates in his own existence.

Artist: Emmesse

"Tales from China" a typically surreal painting of one of Manchester's most distinctive districts.

The Flood

Artist: Judith Donaghy

A former textile designer, Judith transferred her practice to painting some years ago. Working in oils she builds up layers and scrapes at the surface to create intriguing interpretations of her surroundings.
Judith has exhibited widely around the region in both group and solo exhibitions.

"Painting is, for me, an instinctive process although direct observation is an important element. Small sketches and colour notes made when out walking or visiting places of interest are usually the starting point for a painting which is later completed in the studio.

Royal Exchange

Artist: Caroline McManus

Outside Manchester's iconic Royal Exchange theatre a young woman scrabbles around inside her bag. Using the same 'snapshot in time' concept as with her better known cow paintings, Caroline captures everyday moments in the city centre and transforms them into something poignant.

'When You're Walking Through Town And You Have To Stop And Chat But You Really Don't Want To'

Artist: Emmesse

Artist: David Brightmore

Originally from South Yorkshire, David studied Business Management in Cardiff and Fine Art in Sheffield. Having lived in the Snowdonia village of Rhyd-Ddu from 1985 until 2004, he learned the Welsh language and possesses a close affinity with life in Wales. With a passion for the outdoors David has run and walked through most of the Welsh mountains and hills and though his landscape paintings are rarely specific to one recognisable place, they endeavour to express certain essential dramatic and lyrical qualities of the North Wales environment.
